How To Buy Digital Cameras Cheap And At A Large Discount

There is a nice fluid market for both new and after market digital cameras on eBay. Digital Camera usage has grown enormously over the past few years. Technology has reduced the old film and developing almost to the archives. Quality cameras ranging in price from well under $500 to over $2000 are available. Professionals, amateur hobbyists and regular households all seem to be acquiring cameras, often more than one per household. The question becomes how can I acquire a digital camera at the best possible price?

With a large volume of most models being traded everyday, this is the ideal efficient market. One can study the dynamics of this micro-market and determine some useful buying rules. With a little more information than the rest of the marketplace, one can almost certainly make some intelligent buying opportunities. This article focuses on how to identify these gaps and often purchase digital camera's for 20-40% below retail.

This article should be read together with my longer piece and a web site, which produces the information required to identify buying nuggets. Find the links and URL's to these two sites at the bottom of this article. The niche site focuses specifically and only on data from the digital camera market.

Most information on eBay focuses on the selling element, i.e. how to sell your stuff. I have tended to specialize on the buying end and trying to identify market opportunities and price in-efficiencies to really capture excellent deals. To do this we need to understand the dynamics of the eBay market place. Like any other market it is supply demand driven, and like a large flee-market if a buyer has knowledge of how many items are for sale at what prices and how many other buyers are in the market, then that buyer can capture the upper hand. Lets focus a little more on supply.

The eBay supply dynamic is a little different in that supply of an item must be seen at a point in time. In other words, because auctions end at different times, one needs to grasp the number of auctions ending in close proximity for the same item. This gives you a feel for the supply of items or in our case cameras. What makes this interesting is that today there could be a large amount of auctions ending for a particular model, but next week there could be very few. This is one element driving the price.

The demand side is slightly more complex and hidden from the average eBay buyer. This is where that the web site I refer to at the bottom has some useful data. Demand in eBay terms is measured (by sellers) as a number of factors - how many people view my auction, how many people ask questions, how many people place me on their watch page, and how many people actually bid. Obviously as we progress down this list the data become more reliable as an indication of demand. Page views are not easy to obtain, although some sellers place a publicly viewable counter on their auction pages. Questions and watchers are available to sellers, and the special web site mentioned below will expose this information. Number of bids is available for all to see.

Now if we happened to produce a graph as the auction progresses of the changes in the number of questions, watchers and bid's one can easily see how the demand is changing as time progresses. Typically if questions are high and watchers are high, but bids are low, this may indicate some confusion and a possible buy opportunity. If watchers are very high and climbing, but bids are low, this can point to a last minute bidding war, and a stay out indicator.

Armed with this information and also a quick summary of other similar auctions ending soon, plus a quick feel for the skill set of the seller and the current highest bidder, once can see a picture very different from the average eBay buyer. Soon the trained eye will observe some nice buying opportunities. For the professional or amateur photographer this will soon bring in a number of digital camera buys that are quite a bit cheaper that retail. For example it is quite possible to find gems at 20-40% of retail prices. Lets face it, most digital camera's perform perfectly years after acquisition. Digital electronics seldom degrade over time, so the aftermarket such as eBay is the idea place to buy camera's cheaply.

Ringtones are Red Hot

Ringtones are like hot cakes for the youngsters, the market is huge, estimated world wide sales of $ 2.5 Billion per year. The cost of a ringtone is ranging from $0.99 - $2.99. Survey shows that about 26% of cell phone owners downloaded at least once a ringtone. Many downloading more than one as you can customize and set the phone to play different ringtones per specific caller.

For instance if mom is calling the cell phone will play a certain ringtone and another one for dad and for your girl friend a different one so you don't have to guess who is calling you, it is totally personalized per caller.

There are four types of ringtones:

* Monophonic ringtones play a melody of a song one note at a time, with no harmonies.

* Polyphonic tones add harmonies to the song.

* Real-life ringtones include voices, quotes, or other strange, real sounds.

* Master tones are compressed clips of actual songs, as heard on the radio(not just their melodies or a simple harmonic version).

How do you download a ringtone?

There many web sites that offer a huge selections of lyrics and songs, themes from movies, hip-hop, pop, dance, singers, classics and you name it.

The selection is per specific cell phone model and the process is simple, fast and easy. You select a ringtone, choose your cell phone maker and model, you see on the screen an SMS code, you type it in your mobile phone and send, then an SMS message is sent to you with your ringtone to be installed in two short steps process.

It is estimated though that the ringtone download party will cool down a bit in the next few years as more cell phones will become an MP3 players of real music.

Theft Prevention Accessories for PDAs

Protect Your Investment, Your Data, and Your Privacy With These Theft Prevention Accessories for PDAs

Losing a PDA through theft is one of the biggest challenges owners of personal data devices face. As the prices and capabilities of these units increases, so does the market for stolen PDAs, year after year. Of course, locking the unit up in a drawer and never taking it out is about the only certain way of making sure a PDA is never stolen, but that limits the usefulness. Attaching a heavy chain and a wheel hub may help, but it won't fit in your pocket. Instead of taking these sorts of extreme measures, consider one or more theft prevention accessories for PDAs.
Permanent Markings Scare Away Thieves

If you're a little handy and have a steady hand, you can try the tried-and-true method of etching. Grab your rotary tool and lightly carve an identifier into the back of the case, like a phone number or email address. Doing this will probably void your warranty. Don't try this unless you have a steady hand and neat handwriting.

A less extreme option is a security sticker. A sticker may not seem like much of a deterrent, but what if peeling off that sticker announced that the PDA is stolen? That's the idea behind security sticker theft prevention accessories for PDA units. The self-adhesive sticker is attached to the back of the unit, and gives an 800 number to call and report the PDA. The sticker also advises them that by reporting the unit, they can avoid prosecution.

However, if the sticker is peeled off, the phrase "STOLEN PROPERTY" and the 800 number are left behind in large, very obvious lettering of indelible ink. This type of theft prevention accessories for PDA units stops theft from those who want to snatch the item while you're not looking, and turn around and sell it on the street. Few people, regardless of how dishonest they are, will buy an item that announces it has been stolen.

Tracking the PDA With GPS

The GPS functionality built into many modern PDAs is usually used for convenience for the unit's owner, but with tracking security software, it can also be a way to find a stolen PDA. This form of theft prevention accessories for PDA units consists of software that is installed on the unit and a subscription service. The software installed will be linked to the unit's built-in password protection, and will automatically broadcast an emergency signal after an incorrect password has been entered. The subscription service will then pick up the signal and start tracking the PDA, informing the authorities where to find it.

Common Sense

Probably the best theft prevention accessories for PDA units, however, is our own common sense. Don't leave it lying unattended on a table, even for a moment. If you put it down and look away, someone else will probably pick it up. Don't leave it in plain sight inside a vehicle, even a locked vehicle. Make sure you use the built-in security functions of the unit itself. A password can, at the very least, protect the information on a unit from prying eyes if it is stolen. Think about that if you keep your kids' pictures and contact information for your kids' school on the unit.

Mobile Phone Plans: Traditional versus Prepaid

The wireless communication business is like any other part of the competitive retail industry. It constantly expands, and continuously makes room for improvements and revolutionary discoveries. Upgrades and enhanced technologies hit the market at regular intervals and it is becoming more difficult to keep up with the latest trends and developments.
Mobile phones have become a way of life and most people today use a wireless handset to conduct business on the go, or enhance their social life. As business strategy develops, the wireless service providers offer their users more and more possibilities, with the prepaid mobile phone as being one of the most recent innovations.

With every progression in technology, come new rate plans, service conditions and fees. This is also the case for prepaid mobiles. Analyzing the most significant differences between a long-term plan and a prepaid plan, we notice that, while monthly cellular or mobile phone plans, as a norm, tie their user into a one- or two-year service contract, the prepaid plans do not require a set time commitment. Knowing exactly how much you are spending, you can better control your cost, and there is no monthly bill to worry about.

Prepaid mobiles are ideal for people with bad credit. The carriers do not need a credit approval, which means, no credit checks! They do not demand a deposit and do not surprise you with hidden fees. There is also no termination penalty, as there is no contract.

Many prepaid mobile phone starter kits are delivered with a phone number, access to a network and a certain amount of credit for calls. When all the credit is used up, recharging the account is easy, and can be done in many different ways, at any time. You can go online, pay by phone, bank machine, or with a prepaid card. Refills can also be obtained at retail outlets, service stations and convenience stores.

With every great invention come drawbacks. The average charge per minute for a pay-as-you-go phone is higher than what monthly mobile plans bill for, and if you do not use the phone for an extended period of time, you may lose the unused funds on your account. Collect calls or third-party billed calls are also not accepted.

In general, prepaid mobile phones can be the cheapest option for people who do not make many mobile calls. They are handy if you only want a handset to receive calls, or take along for emergencies . Even if you run out of credit you can still receive calls for a limited time and dial out for emergency services. On the other hand, if you are a frequent caller, want extra features such as Internet access, and have several family members, employees, or business partners you want to add to your plan, you are likely better off with a traditional mobile service plan.

Before signing up for a long-term plan, think about the length of the contract and minimum total costs; find out if a phone is included in the starter package, and if there are penalties involved when leaving the plan early. Carefully weigh the pros and cons of both prepaid and traditional mobile phone plans and then decide what format would work best for you.

Choosing Laptops on Features

Many laptops these days have a wide screen with a ratio of 16:10. This gives many more images - ideal for watching DVDs - and good clarity, but not for those who need portability. And if you think that you can take this wonderful little portable overlooks the beach and do your job, think again. Despite the advertisement showing a bikini-clad daughter computers on the beach, most of the screens are almost impossible to see in sunlight. LCDs are better nature, but relatively low look inside, and are difficult to find, however. The best choice would be one with a matt surface so that it can at least reduce the glare.

Another requirement for the implementation is pretty decent memory. You can add more memory, like taking your notebook memory available. 1 GB is sufficient to run Vista, 2GB, but it's better for things like 3D gaming, video editing and graphics work. You can get away with 512 MB if you do something only as a variant of Linux. But you can not do much else with it.

Try before you buy is a good rule to remember when choosing a laptop. Would you like to be able to use it without too much discomfort and sacrifice of very small size of ergonomics. This means that you can get cramps in hands and fingers if you use too long.

Apple at Work on Touch-screen PDA

Roughly a decade after terminating production of its Newton personal digital assistant, Apple is reportedly planning a return to the PDA market, putting the finishing touches on a touch-based device in the tradition of the iPhone and the iPod Touch. Citing sources close to the project, AppleInsider reports that the as-yet-unnamed PDA runs an embedded version of Apple's Mac OS X Leopard platform--the device is described as an ultra-thin "slate" resembling the iPhone, but at 1.5 times the size and with an approximate 720x480 high-resolution display that spans virtually the entire surface.

According to AppleInsider, Apple engineers have been at work on a PDA prototype for roughly 18 months, although the project's roots date back even earlier. During an appearance at the 2004 D: All Things Digital conference, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said he was proud of the products his firm has released in recent years, and also proud of the products it decided not to ship--asked by an audience member to elaborate, Jobs replied "An Apple PDA." Sources say the PDA development nevertheless ground to a halt as Apple pulled engineers of the project to meet its self-imposed June 2007 iPhone launch date.

Jobs is expected to officially announce the Apple PDA during his keynote Macworld appearance in January, with retail shipments to follow in mid-2008.
